Advanced Practice Providers (APP) in Specialized IBD Care

The role of Advanced Practice Providers in specialized IBD care is critical for the pathways of patient-engaged, holistic care of the inflammatory bowel disease patient population. As the presentation of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis becomes more complicated and more diverse treatment options become available, the role of advanced practice providers becomes more critical for support of the diagnosis, treatment and planning, ongoing assessments, and collaborative care along the gastroenterology continuum.

Advanced Practice Providers in specialized IBD care play a critical role in the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care as well as in the partnership with gastroenterology. By following designed clinical pathways, practicing interprofessional teamwork, and communicating in a patient-centered manner, APPs help to improve the sufficiency of care for patients with IBD.
